Introduction
On the 19th of October, we had our Chorley clinic Open Day, and it was a huge success! This blog will be discussing everything that went on throughout the Open Day. Firstly, we would like to give a massive “THANK YOU!!” to everyone who came down and made the day as special as it was. Whether you came to one of the seminars or simply wandered in to have a look at our new, high tech equipment.
Seminars
From 1pm to 5pm we hosted a range of free injury prevention seminars based on different sports and activities. All the seminars were presented by one of our experienced clinicians. In between the seminars, there was also a chance to have a trial session in our Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber.
Firstly, Tom kicked us off with a seminar on “Overcoming Arthritis – Staying Young As We Age”. The seminar was focused on managing osteoarthritis whilst staying active. Tom discussed some of the details of the condition and also some of the misconceptions that are associated with osteoarthritis. The aim was to provide some ideas to help people to continue to participate in activities they enjoy and improve the outlook of their condition.
At 2pm, Laura hosted her seminar on “Preventing Shoulder Injuries in Swimming”. Laura began her seminar by discussing common faults and improper techniques that can cause injury. Laura then covered the different ways we would assess a swimmer, and looked at exercises such as ‘The Superman’.
Thirdly, Josh began his Seminar on “Core Stability in Runners” at 3pm. Josh aimed to explain the demands placed on the body when running. Furthermore, Josh looked at which muscle groups could and should be strengthened to reduce the risk of injury. He then finished his seminar by discussing the things that can be done to optimize recovery or how to keep running when injured.
At 4pm, Josh and Andy began their seminar on “Golf – Pain to Par”. With the use of our new GAIT analysis equipment, we can assess, and correct people’s swing technique. Whether you’re a beginner or a professional, we can educate you on your swing technique and begin to correct it where possible.
Celebration
Once the final seminar was completed, the main bulk of people moved into the reception. There was bubbly and food on offer and the chance to win a free session in our hyperbaric chamber OR a full running analysis, through our raffle.
Conclusion
We are very grateful for everyone involved in our Open Day and we’re looking forward to holding more events in the future. If you didn’t manage to make it on Saturday, don’t worry! We are more than happy to show anyone around our new clinic. Come on down to David Lloyd Chorley and see what we’re all about!
