Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance.
At Summit Physiotherapy, we aim to get you feeling stronger than ever and keep you out of our clinics for as long as possible. This works hand in hand with the 1:1 reformer Pilates Service. Pilates strengthens the core muscles, trains the body to be more efficient and more balanced in movement. By improving flexibility, it can help prevent injury. Athletes with better core strength have shown more dynamic control of their movements and are less likely to be injured.
With a sliding platform, known as a carriage, on which you lie, sit, kneel or stand to perform different exercises. This highly versatile piece of equipment allows for an unlimited range of exercises to be performed, many of which train key muscles you probably never knew existed.
With a career spanning over 20 years in the health and fitness industry, Ruth brings lots of knowledge and experience to the team. She is extremely passionate about what she does and really enjoys working with a wide range of people, from complete beginners to seasoned athletes.

What is Modern Pilates?
Modern Pilates is a unique, clinical approach based on the original exercises of Joseph Pilates. It was developed by physiotherapists and some of the best Pilates practitioners in the UK, bringing the methods of Joseph Pilates into the 21st Century.
The exercises work on the deep structures of your muscles and through a sequence of movements help to strengthen your body from within to improve your poise, body awareness and muscle tone. The Modern Pilates method of exercise promotes uniform development of all the muscles in the body working on precision and flow.
Modern Pilates is recommended by Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Chiropractors, and is considered safe for people with back, knee, hip and shoulder problems. Many people use Pilates to assist rehabilitation following an injury or operation.

Lessons from a Rupture: Looking After the Achilles Tendon
Achilles and I have something in common. Unfortunately, it’s not the super-human fighting ability or a story that went down in history; it’s the fact that we were both taken out by a blow to the heel. Achilles, for those who don’t know, was an Ancient Greek legend, a hero of the Trojan War. His […]
