The main aim of a deep sports massage is to improve blood circulation, eliminating the build-up of lactic acids and preventing accumulated stiffness from training or working repetitively.
This special form of massage is typically used before, during or after sporting events. However, a sports massage is not just for sports people; it is for anyone who desires a deep tissue massage.
A sports massage can effectively break down minor injuries and lesions that occur due to overexertion and/or over use of muscles, as well as helping to prevent those niggling injuries that occur whether you’re a trained athlete or office worker.
Sports massages are often used in combination with other physiotherapy techniques as part of your recovery programme.
At Summit Physio, we are vastly experienced in providing effective and lasting treatment to athletes of varying abilities, and we are able to offer our industry-leading service across our range of clinics.
Benefits of Summit’s sports massage
Improved circulation and lymph flow
Feel good factor
Reduced muscle tension and soreness
What should you expect from a sports injury treatment session?
We use state-of-the-art screening technology to garner information that will aid your rehabilitation.
Once we’ve ascertained what has caused your injury, we can take steps to boost your recovery and reduce the likelihood of you encountering the same problem again. Many of our clients require a sports massage as part of their treatment.
A sports massage often requires suitable clothing; for example, it’s important the back is uncovered when it’s being massaged, so please bear that in mind when choosing clothing.
Remember, Summit has both male and female clinicians, so please ask if you feel suitable with either.
You will be given privacy to change and we’ll create a suitable situation where both privacy and functionality of treatment can occur.
Corinne is amazing. Very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. I feel very comfortable and I always feel better have my Sports Massage. I get quite a few niggles from being a Studio Fitness Instructor but Corinne always sorts them out. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
I've suffered various running related injuries over the years and these guys have never failed to get me back running again. They've always given good advice to prevent any re-occurrence or to avoid new injuries occurring. I've been treated by various different staff members and all have been courteous, attentive and very competent. Any time I have heard of a friend or colleague who needed some physio treatment, I have always been quick to recommend Summit Physio due to my positive experiences with them.
I am a professional fighter , I have been going to summit Physio for a few years now they have never let me down. An athletes worse nightmare is getting injured But seeing Andy he always remains positive and gets you back training and competeing in no time. These guys are the best around.
5 star review for the friendly greeting and efficient service from Louise on reception who booked our appointment, through to the professional physio assessment, services and and aftercare from Corrine. Thank you both. Would definitely recommend!
I saw Andy after a succession of poor advice and a subsequent discectomy left me walking like frankenstein. He supported me with a programme of rehab that allowed me to gain my confidence back and ultimately my normal life. Nothing is too much trouble and he always goes the extra mile. Effective rehab is as much about the psychological support as it is the physical and his humour is priceless in this area. I have since walked the 3 peaks and can live relatively pain free which I never thought possible. I could not have done this without Andy and cannot recommend him and Summit physio highly enough
I have used Summit for the past 12 years for various running and cycling injuries. I have seen various members of staff during this time at different locations. All staff are courteous, knowledgeable and able to explain in simple terms the treatment required for the injuries. After receiving treatment, they also explain how to avoid reoccurrence with the help of exercises. I would highly recommend this practice to anybody.

Their approach to injury management and prevention is at the forefront of current practice, and mirrors the way in which we train our students to become safe and effective clinicians.
Our students consistently provide excellent feedback following their placements at Summit, particularly referring to the professionalism and clinical skills of their practitioners, and their dynamic approach to patient treatment and management.
The team at Summit support the development and delivery of our Sport Rehabilitation programme by contributing to our industry advisory board, and providing guest lectures. As a direct result of their exemplary placements, Summit help us to ensure that our students are industry-ready.
Through the unique clinic-university relationship, clients of Summit are also able to access the University’s laboratory technology and testing facilities, which greatly benefits their injury management and prevention.
What to expect
Our aim here at Summit is to keep our clients relaxed, and for them to enjoy their time with us. Our staff are friendly and more than happy to answer any questions you may have on your condition and treatment.
Each new client/condition will have an initial consultation where one of our skilled clinicians will take a detailed and confidential history and physical assessment. Then, using Summit’s education board, we will explain why the condition has occurred, allowing you to properly understand the cause of your pain/problem.
From here a relevant, evidence-based and up-to-date treatment plan can be put into action.
You will be given a home exercise programme (HEP) at the end of the session, in conjunction with your treatment. Not only will this maximise the benefits of the treatment and, it will allow you to self-manage your symptoms where possible.
Summit also promotes positive lifestyle behaviours by teaching individuals to self-manage their condition, which improves confidence, sense of wellbeing and quality of life.
With these new acquired skills, we can give you a long-term solution so you can prevent reoccurrence of your condition and return to activity with confidence.
Summit physiotherapy is committed to its clients and expects commitment from them in return. All of our clients must realise that their rehabilitation and recovery requires a team effort.
Above all, we are here to help you get better and give you the confidence to embrace the treatment. A happy client means a quicker recovery, and that’s what we provide here at Summit.

Adam along with fellow director, Andrew Hosgood founded Summit Physiotherapy in 2006. I really enjoy working at Summit Physio and the support network we have, the admin team work very closely together to ensure the best service for clients and a happy and productive workplace. As I work mostly on the front desk I get to see and be a part of clients journey.
One of my favourite aspects of being on the front desk and the first contact when a client calls Summit to book, is getting to know a large array of people. I am certainly a ‘people person’ and can be relied upon to be a friendly voice/face when meeting and greeting our clients.

I have been a physio with Summit for the past 2 years now, I really enjoy the diverse range of patients I get to treat here. My youngest patient has been 4 years old and my oldest patients have been well into their 90’s. I love the new challenges that each person and their injuries bring.

I recently completed a marketing degree at Lancaster University. University helped me mature and build my confidence academically as well as socially. I really enjoyed university life but was very eager to get invto a practical marketing role. I’m very excited about the future of Summit Physio and look forward to seeing where this role will take me.

I have since completed a master’s degree in Sport and Exercise medicine and enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds.
At all of our clinics we aim to educate our patients about how to look after their body and muscles, meaning you won’t need to keep coming back – we will teach about your injury or condition, explaining why it happened and how you can prevent a reoccurance
- Understand our clients’ reservations and requirements to make sure they’re relaxed and comfortable during their visit
- Combine manual therapy techniques with exercise rehabilitation to get you moving better and more efficiently.
- Look at each patient individually and not just treat the injury, but we take into account the whole body and the person.
- We also take into account the lifestyle and history of each patient and work with them to achieve there desired outcomes.
There are many different specialist areas of physiotherapy. All Summit clinicians are specialists in musculoskeletal and sports injuries (i.e. muscles, bones, joints and other soft tissues), orthopaedics, post-operative and functional rehabilitation; general aches and pains; and injury prevention.
