Sports Massage
We are delighted to be able to offer Sports Massage Therapy at our clinics in Chorley & Wrightington.
The main aim of sports massage therapy is to improve blood circulation. This eliminates the build-up of waste products and prevents accumulated stiffness from training or working repetitively.
This special form of massage is typically used before, during or after sporting events. However, a sports massage is not just for sportspeople; it is for anyone who desires a deep tissue massage.
A sports massage can effectively manage minor injuries and lesions that occur due to overexertion and/or overuse of muscles, as well as helping to prevent those niggling injuries that occur whether you’re a trained athlete or an office worker.
At Summit Physio, we are vastly experienced in providing effective and lasting treatment to athletes of varying abilities, and offer our industry-leading service across our range of clinics.
Benefits of Sports Massage Therapy:
- Improved circulation and lymph flow
- Reduced muscle tension and soreness
- Increased range of movement
- Improved flexibility
- Pain relief
Things to consider when booking a Sports Massage:
- A sports massage requires suitable clothing; for example, shorts, strappy tops, gym-wear, to allow the practitioner access to the area that requires massage
- Remember, Summit has both male and female clinicians, so please ask if you feel more comfortable with either.
- Sports massage is designed to assist in the recovery of issues that are caused from repetitive and strenuous activity, whether you’re a triathlete training for your next event or feeling the effects of desk-based work. Sports massage is a maintenance treatment and should not be booked to diagnose and assess sudden injury, long-term or recurring issues. Be sure to book an initial physiotherapy assessment if you are seeking this service.
- We offer both 30 minutes and 60-minute sports massage sessions. 30 minutes will tend to focus on one key area, whether that be upper back and shoulders or legs and glutes. Whilst 60 minutes allows for several body sites to be included within the session.

Medical History
Please remember to inform us of any prior or ongoing medical problems that you have even if you think they seem unrelated to the pain you are seeking treatment for.
our aim here at summit is to keep our clients relaxed, and for them to enjoy their time with us. out staff are friendly and more than happY to answer any questions you may have on your condition and treatment.
Each new client/condition will have an initial consultation where one of our skilled clinicians will take a detailed and confidential history and physical assessment. Then, using Summit’s education board, we will explain why the condition has occurred, allowing you to properly understand the cause of your pain/problem.
From here a relevant, evidence-based and up-to-date treatment plan can be put into action.
You will be given a home exercise programme (HEP) at the end of the session, in conjunction with your treatment. Not only will this maximise the benefits of the treatment and, it will allow you to self-manage your symptoms where possible.
Summit also promotes positive lifestyle behaviours by teaching individuals to self-manage their condition, which improves confidence, sense of wellbeing and quality of life.
With these new acquired skills, we can give you a long-term solution so you can prevent reoccurrence of your condition and return to activity with confidence.
Summit physiotherapy is committed to its clients and expects commitment from them in return. All of our clients must realise that their rehabilitation and recovery requires a team effort.
Above all, we are here to help you get better and give you the confidence to embrace the treatment. A happy client means a quicker recovery, and that’s what we provide here at Summit.
